I don't enjoy the award shows, but this isn't new.
Political protests have been part of Hollywood generally and the Oscars specifically almost since it started. Remember who accepted Marlon Brando's "Godfather" best actor Oscar?
I think the main difference now is the hypersensitivity of the president to any criticism (which is ironic because he brings so much down on himself), which his most committed fans adopt.
And then just consider the uprising a couple of years ago within the Oscar process itself about under-representation of minorities in the awards, and the fact that #Metoo literally emanates from the crimes of a prominent member of the Academy of Motion Pictures (who was thrown out as a result of the scandal), and how can you expect anything else?
You either watch it knowing what's coming because you like it, or you watch it knowing what's coming because you like complaining about it. But you certainly know what's coming.
I didn't watch and don't know who won what. [Post edited by hoolstoptheheels at 03/05/2018 09:43AM]
