I think there are misconceptions about the "GOP Strengths"
People largely just wanted change...many were not smitten with Trump (some were, I get that) and many just didn't like Hillary. At the end of the day people just wanted to go in a different directly and any change to the norm was what they wanted.
Unfortunately we're now caught in this endless cycle where if Republicans are in charge they're going to suck and nothing will get done, pissing off lots of Americans. If Democrats are in charge they're going to suck and nothing will get done, pissing off lots of Americans. Our government is broken and we're not going to make any progress one way or the other until we elect people based on the quality of who THEY are and what THEY represent as opposed to the party that they will be taking orders from once they are elected. The parties, both parties, are the problem. They pick and choose who they will put forward as candidates and then we're left to pick the best of what's been presented to us. How about we put our best people forward and the parties get dealt whatever we give them?
