I suspect it comes from here (link). I honestly don't understand why anyone

would oppose this (actually background checks on all gun purchases, rather than the more vague "expanded background" checks). If we have a simple inexpensive way of doing this (e.g. going through FFL dealer and/or Govco system that could do it for $20 or less nominal fee of private sales, which are the only ones that don't have a background check now), why would you (or anyone) be opposed to that?

If anything it would seem to strengthen gun rights, since it would be one less argument for banning anything, and would get rid of the nonsense constantly thrown out about the "gun show loophole", buying guns on the internet, anyone can walk into their local guns & guitar, etc.

Granted it would've done nothing to stop Parkland, Vegas, Sugarland, or most mass shootings since those guns all went through a background check iirc, nor stop the Sandy Hook nut from killing his mom and taking her legally purchased guns (which should tell us the problems are not so much with hoos going through a background check, but rather hoos able to pass one IMO), but it could stop some shootings, and unlike the garbage Obama proposed, would not place an undue burden on buyer or seller.

Honestly I can't understand why this hasn't already happened long ago, other than a steadfast lobbying group doing what lobbying groups do, and pols not wanting to lose the (blame the NRA) political talking point.
