There may be people on this board who want to ban guns and pry them from republican cold, dying hands, but I have no idea who. There is certainly no "gun prohibition" movement in the US. And I don't agree with you in any event. I think the NRA likes to talk about mental health, but as a distraction. They have historically stood in the way of getting rid of some of the loopholes to background checks, which would be a means to get guns in the hands of psychos. The NRA wants money. Gun sales. So I disagree that they want to keep them out of the hands of psychos - their money is as good as anyone's. Just now, they're finally starting to have a PR problem about it. They are under fire a bit now, so I'll grant you that their views are at least muddied on the subject (just on keeping guns out of the hands of psychos).

West Side Story was made in the late 50s/early 60s, and the big gang rumble was a knife fight. That seems almost quaint nowadays. Everybody has guns. The gun culture in the US, always strong, has exploded. There a lots of issues to cover with violence in America. Easy access to guns is a no brainer part of that. Nobody should need high capacity mags. Yet even after the LV tragedy, and the latest shooting, that still hasn't been done. That's insane. I mean, you have sporting goods chains taking their own steps - because they think it's good marketing. Might show up there before the voting booth, but we finally may be on the cusp of that too.

Guns aren't the only problem, but finally I think society is pushing back against the idea that just because its not the only problem, we can't address it. Hope it sticks.
