I don't really have a problem with enacting stricter gun control regs on high capacity semi-auto rifles. I don't need one, and I can't really think of a great reason anyone else does either. And I do wish owners would just own up to the fact that they only have them because they're "fun." If they could ... easy solution: High capacity semi-auto rifles can be purchased, stored and used at gun ranges but not removed from the property. Have fun, blow shit up, keep them locked up on site.

I do think that not focussing on more low hanging fruit where basically everyone agrees is a mistake, though. Very few people are killed by rifles of any kind. I'd rather focus on closing the private sale loophole, harsher penalties for straw purchasers (and severe penalties for "trafficker-class" straw purchasers -- maybe up to life in prison if deaths can be tied to their guns).
