I don't think that is an opinion per se


Having anything in your home that could be dangerous increases your odds of being hurt by it. Because your odds of being hurt by it are zero if it isn't there. That isn't really an opinion.

Can't drown in your pool if you don't have a pool. Can't cut your foot off with a lawnmower if you don't have a lawnmower. Can't get in a car wreck if you don't have a car. Can't shoot yourself or a family member with a gun if you don't have one of those either.

But to me, that simply means those are risks that need to be managed. You put fences around pools. You operate lawnmowers with guards in place. You keep firearms locked up when not in use, and "follow the rules" when you are using them. Sure, accidents can still happen, but the likelihood of them can be effectively managed, even if they can't be managed all the way down to zero.

Some people just choose not to manage their risk around dangerous things. And those are the ones who skew the statistics.
