Yep it is hard to imagine. We grew up with Coloreds Only, Whites Only sign

The blacks had to enter the theater, through a side entrance and then sit in the balcony. The doctors office had a separate entrance and waiting room. My school desegregated in the seventh grade, but I did go to school with a few blacks my sixth grade year.

Even after segregation, the restaurants in town had signs saying Management Retains the Right to Deny Service to Anyone.

In 1972, they held an election vote at Altavista High School. Nixon and Wallace split the vote. There were two votes for McGovern. I never found out who the other voter was.

Treasure your freedom. We haven't had it long and the Right still want it back.
