the ability of blacks to gain equal income producing jobs and accumulate wealth lasted LONG beyond slavery. Post WWII housing support policies notable excluded blacks from participating in one of the great wealth accumulation investments of the last 70 years - home ownership.
There is a case that continues to be makeable for a "catch-up" for those still trying to climb out of structural inequalities. I personally think that reparations is a bad idea financially and "emotionally" - it would cause too much bad blood
