failure to manage the situation properly. That doesn't mean that sometimes they won't need to do it, but I don't want cops acting as judge, jury and executioner. My opinion is that too often they have had a bias for violent action and violation of rights that has grown over the last 40 or so years as the cops have become more militarized. A lot factors into that, including the armaments that citizens can get hold of, the us vs. them mentality and lack of transparency in a lot of police departments, the availability of military equipment to those departments, even the propensity of some departments to recruit people who want to be in a position to kick some ass.
