Ignoring for a moment that this was Canada, not US. Generally, I agree


with your thought, and we have had a LOT of examples of police being way too trigger happy when someone says "I'm reaching for my wallet" or when the person is just fleeing and clearly doesn't have a weapon.

BUT

If this police officer at any point said to himself "hey, I think that's a gun", then heck yeah he should have dropped the guy. If it WAS a gun, then the guy might shoot the police officer first, and then proceed to kill a few more people.

I didn't watch the whole video. It didn't look to me like the police officer confronting the driver was in a good cover situation. If he thought the guy actually had a gun, then NO, you don't give the bad guy the 'first shot' opportunity.

Has it been made clear yet what the guy was holding and pointing at the officer? Also, did I miss something in the video that would indicate that the policeman had good cover?
