I suspect it's seasonal because of where they're traveling to (chart)
and having to survive (maybe outside a LOT) once you get there, especially if substantially further north is their objective. So they do it during warmer times of the year. The annual on-foot immigrant caravan starts its journey of 1000+ miles (some with small children) from places like Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, in late winter/early spring. Based on border apprehension statistics by month, it appears there's otherwise a pretty steady flow through about October, after hitting a small peak around May.
