My brief internetting on the topic found ...

... Trumpleton support at about 60% nationally among white catholics in the past election.

I would think a hefty piece of that are single issue anti-abortion voters, which ... well the GOP is always going to have that in their pocket, but if there were a public spat between Donnie and the Pope at least some of his support there would undoubtedly erode.

It's not about Hispanic Catholics (overwhelmingly Dems already) or old guard New England Conservatives (outnumbered in deep blue states). What carried Trump to victory in 2016 were swing states in the Rust Belt. Not all out of work Blue Collars workers are protestant.
