True, but homeless people rarely bother anyone. In the winter there can be


a few homeless guys sleeping on the street grates too. I walked by them probably hundreds of times when I used to Metro to work with no incidents.

If you go further east it can be a bit sketchier. There is a lot of new office space in the NOMA part of DC, and still some pretty awful housing projects right around the corner as well as the DC public high school kids that mill around after school. I've been at that metro station at the wrong time of night and felt a little uncomfortable. Also got the sense that some of the kids may think it's funny to try and scare white people. Have seen kids go up and close talk professionals trying to go home from work or yell stuff and act crazy just to see the reaction, but never anyone actually harmed. Of course, if you're not intimidated by them they leave you alone because they're really just punk high school kids.
