The needs of the many outweigh those of the few is somewhat central to a lot of Leftist political thought. It's a pretty horrifying ethic if taken to various logical endpoints, and why full blown ideologies like Communism are so destined to fail the way that they do.

However, it does leave a very real opening for simply not caring about the personal moral failings or corruption of individual leaders. If the totality of Bill Clinton's efforts as President are for the common good, then his personal misadventures can be tolerated. That's not hypocrisy, it's a central tenet of leftist thought. Women's' Rights (large) can be important while at the same time the rights of any single woman (small) are not.

Again, this is a fatal flaw. IMHO.

And what makes Bill Clinton such an interesting example is that apart from his moral failings, there was so very little to dislike about him even from a Conservative point of view. He was a moderate, as Democrats go, in virtually every respect. And he presided over an era of terrific peace and prosperity. Hell, there was even social safety net reform under his watch! The right's obsession with him is entirely based on his immorality. So yeah ... when those same people continue to support Donald Trump, they are quite clearly full of shit.
