Seems like as much as some are scared of it, nuclear power generation

needs to be an big interim push until true renewable are enough to cover most of our power needs. We have that technology very well developed and while it does produce some greenhouse gasses in the construction / maintenance of plants its a magnitude of 10 less than fossil fuels.

Then we need to attach transportation. Electric vehicles are only so value if the electricity they use to charge is made from a coal fired power plant. But more importantly is the global shipping which produces a TON more pollution than all the cars in the world combined. There is some crazy stat that the 15-20 largest cargo ships produce more CO2 than all the cars in the world. Frankly, if we really wanted to attack the problem, we would strongly consider nuclear powered cargo ships - but again, all the fears of nuclear power come up.

Transportation and electricity production generate something like 60% of the greenhouse gas emissions. We have the technology right now to to reduce that significantly in a very short period of time with nuclear power and electric vehicles.
