Trump is a one man institution-seeking missile who attacks anything and everything meant to provide balance against unchecked exec power. Especially the judiciary and the press.

On the press - I think all of us - dems, repubs, indies, and everything in between - need to accept the reality of the environment the press operates in. Any of us who object to Trump's attacks on CNN or NBC or the NYT or the WP should not turn around and do the same to FOX. We are no longer in the time of Walter Cronkite and 5 TV channels. The press has been doing no more than respond to its changing competitive landscape. Independence is the key and neutrality is a myth. Really always has been, but the Internet and social media changes everything. We have more neutral choices available to us if we want them. But if we value our democracy (and I talk to too many, especially young people, who seem ambivalent) we need to err on the side of protecting speech and the indispensable watchdog function.

Beyond just our own democracy, the nationalists imperil all post WW II institutions as if they have no sense of what the world was like before. Unless we want growing conflicts leading to lord knows what, we also need to get rid of Trump to end his assaults on them.
