existence of a crisis. You like this study 'cuz it fits with your politics, maybe I don't because it doesn't, but neither of us knows. Homeland Security doesn't agree. Pew doesn't agree. Either way, this was not part of Trump's case the other night. They all seem to agree that the trend is down, even if the estimates have been low. And that the numbers are mostly due to expired visas, not illegal crossings that a wall would stop. If a wall would even do that.

Trump wants the wall for political symbolism, and nothing else.

I happen to think the dems are missing a great oppty. I think the repubs would jump at a DACA deal for 5-6 bil for the wall, and I'd view that as a fair trade. I think that amount of money would produce more bluster from Trump about a wall and #winning! than an actual wall. And I think dems are perhaps too hung up on not letting him declare a victory, when in exchange they could do real good for a lot of people. Including by opening govt back up.

But the case Trump made was wholly unconvincing, because it rested largely on falsehoods. That would not be necessary if this were a real crisis.
