I don't watch all that often myself, generally because of schedules, but

I certainly do not find NBC, CBS or ABC news to be trash. The nightly news shows have become to me less satisfying over the years, not because they aren't competently done - they are - but because rarely are they timely (first with breaking news, because breaking news doesn't wait until 6:30) and nor do they have the air time to fully develop many if any of the stories they report. News has to adapt to their schedule.

CNN, MSNBC and the other 24 hours news channels, and Fox News have all the friggin time and flexibility in the world. they adapt to breaking news (one might say they CONSUME breaking news)
