Umm, Hooda?
I think you mis-read what she said buddy. Nowhere does she say the Palestinians were waiting with open arms to help Jews create a safe homeland after the Holocaust. What she's saying (not particularly well I admit) is that Israel was created with help from the West in large part as a reaction to the tragedy of the Holocaust, but that in doing so, another tragedy (which she doesn't claim equalled the toll of the Holocaust you'll note) was born: the taking of land, lives, and treasure from the peoples who had been living there for generations. What she says - in this quote at least - is true; the Palestinians bore much of the cost in the creation of the state of Israel (I'm not about to stick my head in google to research everything she's said since she became a public figure, so don't ask) *
I read a really interesting book recently - Rise and Kill First by Ronan Bergman, an Israeli investigative journalist. Pretty evenhanded about the atrocities committed by all sides starting before Israel's statehood and going up to the ever-worsening present. I recommend it to you, link below.
*I'd love to spend more time on this but have to pack to go to our girl's graduation - can you believe it's been 4 years?
