The House healthcare bill that passed in May 2017


allowed states to choose whether or not to mandate pre-existing coverage protections (allowed states to opt out of that part of the ACA), effectively ending those protections for people in a number of states.

Obviously it didn't pass the Senate, but you asked for "single proposal put forth by the GOP that strips those protections,” and that wasn't just a proposal but a bill passed by Republicans in the House.

You are correct that those protections still exist, but it's because the courts and John McCain have prevented their removal, not because of lack of trying by the GOP.
