The error of the Trump administration in regard to Chinese trade was less


in considering or even implementing tariffs and more in brinksmanship. As usual, their complete lack of understanding and planning has led them to meander into an untenable situation. They would have been better served promoting international trade pacts not including China and promoting alternative sources to Chinese goods rather than pursuing an all-in tariff strategy. That may not have accomplished the desired goal, but neither is the current tact.
