First China’s theft of our intellectual property; second subsidies provided by the Chinese government to their businesses that artificially lower prices and make them more competitive than other nations; and third penalties imposed by the Chinese government on imports.
The theft of intellectual property should be dealt with. Tariffs or even incentives to keep US businesses out of harms way in China or other ideas would all seem appropriate.
The second one also deserves a response. As a Sauber nation we have every right to protect the businesses within our nation and our markets. If another nation is playing unfairly and harming our economy and businesses, then some level of tariffs even things back out would seem appropriate.
But in relation to the third item, no Sauber nation has any obligation to any other nations economy. If china wants to protect its companies from imports, it has every right to. So can we or any other nation.
Of course there can’t be ramifications from that so cooperation and mutual respect and a mutual desire to find a middle ground with all seem to be important parts of the international relations. Or one can talk loudly and brashly and launch irrational trade wars.
