No, I think most of them would admit in a quiet moment they'd prefer Pence

They're afraid of the Trumpies that now monopolize primary voting, which is twisting the party into this nationalist abomination. And those people are in the 30% or so that will stick with Trump no matter what he does.

138 is railing against all the wrong things in this thread if you ask me. It isn't surprising that a demagogue as talented as Trump has used reality TV, branding, self-promotion and his understanding of the use of fear and demagoguery to create this following. Americans are only people. Part of the problem is the bullhorn available to these people via social media.

But mostly, what's being exposed is the way such a tiny, extreme part of the population can dictate the political choices to the rest of us. Moving from smokey backrooms to state by state caucuses and primaries was supposed to democratize the process. It really hasn't done that though. If Warren is the dem nominee, then it is certainly possible that 138 is right - a small, extreme subset of the dem party will have imposed upon the rest of us a candidate who can't win among all voters.

Tuning out is the opposite of the right answer. It would be nice if we could consider how to get broader participation in the nomination process. As a start.
