Right, I agree Winchester is more like Shepardstown and Cumberland
and Harper's Ferry and Hancock etc.: Northern redneck towns.
Fauquier--Warrenton and Marshall and The Plains and Orlean and Midland and Casanova and Remington and Bealeton--are more like Culpeper (though I'll never admit that in public under my own name) or Orange or Madison or Sperryville or Mineral than they are like Winchester or Hancock or Cumberland.
I did emphasize the redneck in my first post, but there are institutions like Fauquier Springs CC or The Fauquier Club or the Piedmont Environmental Council or the Warrenton Hunt, the Casanova Hunt, the Old Dominion Hunt, the Middleburg Hunt, (and their respective point-to-points and blessings of the hounds and Opening Meets and Hunt Balls...) there's an Old South gentility, bullshit as it may seem to outsiders, that is very much a part of the fabric of Warrenton and Fauquier which has no analog in the truly northern redneck towns you mention. Warrenton Horse Show, Warrenton Pony show, Gold Cup...
