Well I was in high school in the 80s so if I was sure about anything, I was

likely wrong. Dopey teenagers and college kids are like that. It's why they support Bernie.

But yes, the great thing about math is that it does allow you to be very sure about things. I believe the scientists' warnings on CO2 emissions and that we need to find a way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 50% of 2010 levels by 2030 in order to stave of climate disaster.

Take a look at the attached chart. In 2010, CO2 emissions were ~30 billion metric tons. Half of that is ~15 billion metric tons. Now take a look at projected 2030 emission starting with the red shaded section (Russia) up through the top. That's the developing world that is not going to play ball when it comes to reduction in emissions. They are projected to emit... call it 25 billion metric tons of CO2 by 2030. Now tell me how we're going to get anywhere close to the 15 billion metric ton target when the developing world alone will be ~70% higher than the 2030 target?

And in fact, Bernie's plans could even make the problem worse. What he's proposing would raise energy costs in the US so dramatically that it would put us at a competitive disadvantage to the rest of the world which could shift more production to countries like China, India, Vietnam, etc that have far less stringent environmental regulations.

Sorry for the snark, but I don't think the Bernie bros and the "WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING!!!" crowd really grasp the total economic devastation that the measures they call for would result in. And in the end, unless we bring the developing world to submission through force, all of the economic devastation we wreak on our economy will be for naught. So if you want to put forth a plan, put forth a plan that solves the problem, not one that cripples our economy and doesn't solve the problem anyway.
