Perhaps, but I'm not all in on your analogy. There is an element of

personal redemption, for lack of a better word, in woman (and abused men, such as while kids) telling their stories. And obviously, accused abusers have been and are being held to account.

This is different. Jefferson and all his fellow historical "deplorables" are being judged for 18th century actions against 21st century standards of acceptable behavior, and the noise around the controversy of replacing an iconic figure's bday with a remembrance about slavery will cancel out anything constructive.

I do think one day the pendulum can swing back to something closer to reasonable, and metoo has its analogous overreach too, but the historical whitewashing element of this is a very significant difference.
