Biggest takeaway: attack the virus as communities, not individuals
People’s outlook on the threat of the virus is according to its impact on them. Younger healthier people are less likely to take as many precautions that limits spread. Going to work “with a cold” could be a death sentence to an immuno-compromised co-worker. While we certainly don’t need panic, we don’t need to hear that this is a mild sickness that most people can work through and go about their daily lives.
It is clear with the lack of expedient testing that the government has decided to try and weather the storm rather than contain the coronavirus. Hey, maybe that’s all that can be done at this point due to community spread. Individuals now have to adjust accordingly and that means changing our own behaviors despite the instinct to say “it won’t be that bad for me”. Caring about others wellbeing isn’t a strength of some so this will be a huge challenge.
