What really strikes me about this is how much he feels like the Covid 19

crisis happened "to him" as opposed to something that happened during his Presidency. He's so incredibly insecure that instead of rallying everyone and saying we're going to fight back against the virus and do XYZ (which, btw would've been much better for his election chances), he's tried to make this a PR incident and an example of the media out to get him.

The economy was in the shitter after 9/11 and it didn't hurt Bush's approval ratings one bit, because Bush understood it was something that happened to the entire country and - at least up till the moment there were bombs over Baghdad - he unified the country against the real enemy.
