This is the 2nd pandemic is has set off in the last 15 or so years... Both (allegedly) the result of horseshoe bats transmitting the virus to exotic animals that a small number of people like to consume (civets and pangolins). How long will it take for the next one to happen? The one after that? Clearly hard to control food safety standards in a diverse country of 1.6 billion, but they need to start doing something.

Clearly the Chinese government is understating what has transpired there, and the truth will come out one day. I think it is probably far, far worse than we've been led to believe, and I have to believe our intelligence professionals know a lot more than we do.

So back to the question - now what? Back to business as usual once this is over? Continue to hand over IP for the privilege of accessing the market? Continue to source cheap plastic shit to buy at Walmart? Something has to change... I'm just glad that we can source most of what we need to survive domestically at this point (though apparently not prescription drugs...). With globalization comes new challenges (though people spreading disease around the world has been happening for centuries) that we need to address.
