everything from climate change and human rights to IP protections and food safety. The US, EU, Japan, Canada and South Korea are around 60% of the world's GDP. ALL of those countries have common interests in advancing those concerns and in getting China to be a better world citizen. Other large economies that may not share our political interests (India and Brazil come to mind) would come along rather than not trade with us. If we formed a bloc that required trading partners to meet certain conditions that is a powerful tool to force China into line. There might be concerns from somebody like WTO, but I would rather withdraw and start over if that's the case.
