You posted “perfect reflection of who runs the city.” The


citizens of the city are it’s ultimate decision makers via elections. Richmond is half black, so why shouldn’t they have a voice in what happens in their city? Not to mention there are many white Richmonders who sympathize with them on the matter of the monuments. So maybe the graffiti is indeed a pretty good reflection of where most Richmonders stand, but not in the derogatory way you intended. (I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that you comment didn’t have a racial component.) Having said all that, I don’t condone vandalism and don’t support leaving them up with graffiti intact, and am ambivalent about taking them down.
