Can’t simply speak the tired old gospel, like better training, and then move on”. If people believe that’s happened, then the next viral example of brutality is likely to be as bad as these last 2 weeks or worse. If the next example happens against a backdrop of reform that people broadly believe in, then reactions can be muted.

But just as you can’t expect there to never be police brutality, you can’t expect there to be no public reaction to it when it happens. 30 years ago, George Floyd’s death would probably have been ruled an accident. Now, the truth is hard to conceal. That’s a good thing, but it comes with consequences.
