Virginia colonists weren't differentiated from other Englishmen at the time

and as part of the colonial system, every part of life had the full sanction of both the Crown and Parliament. Shortly after 1619, Virginia became a crown colony and no longer under the auspices of the Virginia Company.

I agree that slavery wasn't "imposed" on the colonists but as Englishmen, I see no reason to view as apart from British official policy, a policy that supported and benefitted from slavery in America for the next 150 years. The relationship as a function of colonialism was by definition economic, with the trade making Englishmen rich. Of course it is the imbalance in that relationship which led to the American Revolution.

There is no doubt that the British Empire had a major hand in fostering slavery during the course of the 18th Century in America and the Caribbean. Their hands are dirty.
