Not necessarily a joke but a tough one. The officers attempt to
place the suspect under arrest for failing a field sobriety test (in addition to being found passed out behind the wheel in a Wendy's drive through). As soon as the officers try to handcuff Brooks and place him under arrest, he immediately resists and attempt to flee. There's chaos as the two officers attempt to gain control of the suspect. The suspect escapes with the officer's taser and points it back at the one officer while running away. The other officer shoots and kills him.
Now if it can be proven the officer who fired shots knew that the suspect *merely* had a taser, then the use of deadly force by the officer was definitely not warranted and he should face charges. And it's easy to "Monday morning quarterback" from behind the safety of your computer screen what you would have done in that situation. But I think it's entirely possible that the officer who fired shots saw the suspect pointing a WEAPON back at the other officer and fired shots at the suspect. It's not like there's a lot of time to think and in the chaos of a struggle like that, I could see how a taser could be mistaken for a gun.
In any event, if I was a police officer now, I'd resign and find another line of work. There are definitely some bad apples that need to be weeded out of police forces throughout this country, and we need to reassess overall policing protocol, but being a police officer now is a no win situation. Nothing but downside. No thanks. [Post edited by BocaHoo91 at 06/17/2020 4:56PM]
