I don't know that everyone reopened too soon, we just

reopened the wrong things and didn't reopen with strong enough rules/messaging around mask usage and were really stupid in general. There was no reason to open bars so soon. Even pubs in the UK haven't reopened yet. Reopening churches is just mindnumbingly stupid. Hold online or outdoor services, but gathering a bunch of (often older, higher risk) people inside with everyone singing is just beyond stupid. Obviously mass protests are also stupid, but I don't know how you stop that. Beaches and parks were probably always OK to be open. Hair salons probably OK with people waiting in their car and then getting called/texted when ready along with everyone wearing masks probably OK. Most medical procedures and appointments... not only OK, but should be encouraged. I worry about the long term negative consequences of people avoiding medical checkups. How many people with colon cancer will go undiagnosed because no one is doing colonoscopies for a 6 month (or more) period of time and what will the cost in lives be for that?

Sorry for the stream of consciousness, but I don't think we needed to remain "closed". I think we just needed to be far smarter about the reopening and not treat it like Covid was a thing of the past.
