Power of protests now vs 2015. Beginning with the incredibly disturbing nature of the video of the Floyd murder itself. The pandemic plays a role, in creating a backdrop of crisis to begin with, not to mention all the pent up frustration just waiting for an outlet.

2020 is light years away from 2015. I think Trump’s approach is to throw kerosene instead of water on the fire in our cities, so I do agree with you. But I also think we are here now in part because we didn’t successfully address these problems earlier, including during the O years.

I mean, we’ve been struggling with these problems since Reconstruction, so I’m not trying to be too critical of either Trump or Obama. Obama’s admin concluded we needed to address the warrior ethos in local police depts, but nothing was done about it. Trump, for his part, seems mostly interested in reinforcing that ethos.

Of course - that’s the divisive approach, and Trump knows no other way.
