I was addressing the specific point that the fact the 2014-5 protests never escalated to this level indicates O handled them better.

I think the Floyd murder and the nature of 2020 has more to do with the staying power of the protests than who the president is. At the same time, I think this president is using it as a wedge in a way no other would, and that is feeding the current intensity. But the protests stayed alive in Portland long before Trump’s latest provocation. In fact that gave him his opening.

Trust me - I think Trump has been exposed as an incompetent, and he’s desperately trying to make the protests into the biggest headline grabbing crisis in the country, because he thinks he can make that a political success for himself, unlike all his other failures.
