At least gives the Trumpanzees a way to rationalize their staying in the cult. Not sure it matters much outside that demographic though. Honestly, most voters know Joe is a mediocre at best candidate but are fine with that for three reasons:

(1) He’s an honest and moral person that people can trust to do the right thing, and the bar literally is THAT low given who we have;

(2) He isn’t an extreme nutjob on policy that will go from one extreme to the other (that was Bernie’s fatal flaw); and

(3) He can be trusted to surround himself with advisors and experts who take their jobs seriously, aren’t just grifters looking to line their own pockets or bust up regulators, etc.; and he will actually listen to them. Starting with how to deal with the pandemic that has exposed just how awful and dysfunctional this current administration is.

Long way of saying, “he’s not Trump, and he’s not even crazier than Trump, therefore, he’ll do.”

I suspect that’s what it ultimately will come down to. They can try to paint him as an even worse alternative than Trump, but at this point there is literally nowhere to go but up so almost no downside to voting for Joe. Even if he does have “dementia” (which he doesn’t).
