in deaths per million. If Italy has no further deaths, US needs another ~30K deaths to be at the same level as Italy. Belgium, UK, Spain and Sweeden are also still ahead of the US and France is basically the same as the US.

While some places in Europe have fared better, Germany being the biggest example, the US is pretty comparable to many major European countries in how this has played out in terms or mortality.

Outside of Westerns Europe, North America, and some places in Asia (like Japan, South Korea) its hard to know what the real numbers are in much of the world. Its also really hard to compare a western democracy to an authoritarian state like Chine, Russia or North Korea (even if you could trust their numbers)

We messed this up and messed it up badly and a heath care crisis became a political kerfuffle - but it isn't like the entire rest of the world has done massively better.
