The issue there was the selective recounting requested and conducted in Gore-friendly territory. Additionally, the elections officials were "divining the intent" of the voter by counting as votes ballots that were not clearly marked for either candidate. Having a statewide recount is no problem as long as it conforms to state law (i.e., mandated by the closeness of the election and conducted statewide).

Also different from Bush v. Gore is that there were no allegations of fraud in that election, whereas there are now. If there are credible allegations of fraud (or error) in specific areas, then presumably recounts could be requested more locally, although I could see a court getting involved in that decision one way or another.

The mail-in ballot issue in this election has created a new dynamic from previous elections in terms of recounts, so we're potentially in new territory from a legal perspective.

You may ultimately be right that the USSC shuts it down using Bush v. Gore, but I doubt they'd get involved solely on that basis for multiple reasons.
