But gaining suburban voters, and that matters more. Look, the Democrats
don't really appeal to rural white people, just like the GOP doesn't appeal to diverse city dwellers. That kinda is what it is, and is a consequence of who the two parties are and what they stand for. I don't see a reason to fight it.
The problem, IMHO, is that the GOP sees progress and population growth under an actual representative democracy as existential threats and is working to subvert our system so they can rule as a minority. We win elections. There has only been one election in the last 30 years where a Republican has won the popular vote. We don't need to worry about converting the unconvertible....we need to make sure that our system continues to work and the two sides (one overwhelmingly in particular) re-learns compromise and shared purpose.
