Reminds me of some of my battles on trade in over the years


The phrase "Fair Trade" was originally coined and has been used for years in DC by some of the most anti-trade constituencies that exist. It has become essentially "Free Trade" vs. "Fair Trade", which is absurd as the phrases should not mean ideas that are mutually exclusive. It was very smart -- who can be against "Fair Trade" and absolutely there are many "Fair trade" marketing initiatives with which I and virtually everybody would agree. But there are also many groups who use the Fair Trade slogan or have it in their mission statement who are classically protectionist and have opposed virtually every trade initiative every proposed.

Names mean almost nothing
