The best way to combat this IMO? Shine a bright light on it. It’s not the most expedient solution, but democracies rarely have those as an option, because democracies need consensus and to respect freedom too much. Autocracies have an easier time. But at too great a cost.

Two great Netflix documentaries shine a light on the foibles of and threat posed by social media and the info age - “The Great Hack” and “The Social Dilemma” (shout out to Molina who suggested Social Dilemma here a while back). There will be some great documentaries and investigative work generally on the post 2020 election period.

But if we put “anti-lie” laws in place too aggressively, such investigative presentations might well become too risky.
