VA was one of the slowest on testing ramp up and is lagging badly on vaccines (my current state of Alabama is dead f***ing last, which is not at all surprising). Yet somehow on a per capita basis VA is doing better than all but a few states at keeping its citizens alive. Cumulative per capita deaths are 8th in the country including Alaska and Hawaii. Somehow Vermont and Maine have stayed almost entirely safe as well. Grading on a curve for difficulty associated with population density, arguably Virginia, Washington and Oregon have been the three most successful states. I don't know if that says more about the citizens of those states, the governments' policies, or both, but it's interesting.
