It could take a bit to ramp domestic production back up in the
event of a shortage though, the capital available for shale companies is much tighter and more demanding after the busts, it would take a lot to have back up and running as I understand it. I've read some analyst opinions that oil could be in a nascent boom cycle for the next 3-5 years, with this among other factors. They could be wrong for sure, just no lock oil will be cheap over the period afaik.
