country (13,000 for softball!). That’s why they play the WCWS there. It’s Oklahoma State’s stadium. They get to decide the capacity, based on their needs, budget and the stadium footprint, just as UVA does with Davenport and its other facilities. If it doesn’t have showers, that’s on Oklahoma State. The NCAA is not in the stadium building business.

The CWS has been played in Omaha since 1948 I think. When Omaha built TD Ameritrade to replace Rosenblatt, they had a good idea what the capacity should be (I think Rosenblatt held 20k or so).

I do agree the NCAA needs to pay attention to the “perks” afforded the women athletes in comparison with the male athletes at its championship events, which they would be idiotic not to be doing after the negative publicity from the basketball tournaments.

Some of the other bitching is just revenue vs. non-revenue stuff. Yes, football and men’s basketball players get better treatment than the non-revenue sports. They also pay for the non-revenue sports. That has nothing to do with gender. Hell, many people want to start PAYING. football and men’s basketball players.

This is just the NYT trying to capture the same controversy they hit on with the disparate weight rooms at the basketball tourneys.
