It's interesting that the passage mentions Texas. I was reading this


article last night about the Alamo's fabled history, much of it exactly that, fabled. I already knew that many of the defenders tried to run and were summarily executed and that Travis never drew a "line in the sand." What I didn't know, and would like to know more about, were the efforts of the white settlers into Texas to push back against the Mexican government's taxes and, more importantly, abolitionism, until they came to blows.

Interesting isn't it that the supposedly enlightened US readily admitted slave-holding Texas while Mexico was working to eliminate slavery? Bet they won't teach that in Texas history books.
