It’s not at all hard to believe that man’s activities can throw ecological systems out of whack. Ecological systems evolve in delicate balance over eons. Small changes in that balance lead to unpredictable changes large and small to the system. Man’s activities have been proven to contribute. Wolves are wiped out from an ecosystem and need to be reintroduced. The Fertile Crescent is now largely barren. Easter island was rendered basically uninhabitable. Hispaniola is a living case study in the effects of deforestation, in the differences between the DR and Haiti, which completely flip flopped over time.

Correlation and causation between increases in carbon and methane, and the like, and global warming are well enough established that it is beyond foolish to ignore it. Or the potential consequences to the global ecosystem. The probabilities don’t have to be all that high to make remedial action make sense. If we’re being rational about it, and we give a shit about the generations following us.
