Spoke with a black friend once. He couldn't understand why Jefferson is

so honored when he profited from human slavery, raped and bred slaves then sold them for profit. I don't believe Jefferson ever sold any of Hemming's children and I (perhaps wishful thinking) that he and Hemming had an unique and special relationship, which I pointed out to my friend. But put it in the way my friend did, I can certainly see why certain people don't believe Jefferson should be honored. To which, I go back to my stance, that we honor people for certain admirable attributes of them, not their entirety, who as human will have flaws. We need to recognize that.
