It was even wargamed out by Democrats who knew what trouble their shenanigans would bring.

1) If elections in numerous states were conducted illegally/unconstitutionally, then they could be considered presumptively void. There would be no results to "overturn" because no legal/Constitutional election would have even been held.

2) As such, the presiding officer of the Constitutional proceeding to submit state results for certification by Congress might arguably have the authority to decline to do so. This would obviously be a bold step of uncertain Constitutionality, but so was the wholesale violation of election laws -- undercutting its integrity -- across multiple states leading up to the election.

3) The backstop at that point would be to have elected representatives of the people in the states in question submit their own slate of electors to represent the state. Again, no coup -- these decisions would be made by elected representatives of the people. Additionally, the electors could have been pro-Trump, pro-Biden or a mix. Nothing mandated a Trump win.

4) If no candidate achieved a majority of electoral votes, then the election is thrown to the House to decide, which isn't even objectionable -- that's always been the case.

The above is the Constitutional argument the Trump lawyers were making. It was in no way a "coup". It was following procedures in place to deal with a situation where the election itself was arguably invalid and unreliable. They lost the argument, and Biden is President.
